Introducing BMC Artificial Intelligence: Providing a home for AI research in the Life, Medical and Environmental Sciences

We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of BMC Artificial Intelligence, a new open-access, peer-reviewed journal, focused on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the life, medical and environmental sciences.

Launching in Summer 2024, the journal will provide a platform for sharing breakthroughs and innovations that harness the power of AI to solve complex problems and improve human and environmental health. Our mission is to facilitate interdisciplinary research that pushes the boundaries of what AI can achieve in areas such as drug development, medicinal chemistry, robotics and precision agriculture. There will also be a focus on ethical implications of AI, particularly in terms of fairness, privacy, and accountability.

The journal will provide a platform for sharing breakthroughs and innovations that harness the power of AI to solve complex problems and improve human and environmental health.

Committed to sustainable developmentBMC Artificial Intelligence particularly encourages research contributing to good health and well-being (SDG3) , quality education (SDG4), clean water and sanitation (SDG6), industry, innovation, and infrastructure (SDG9), sustainable cities and communities (SDG11),  responsible consumption and production (SDG12), climate action (SDG13),  life under water (SDG14) and life on land (SDG15). It also promotes research that introduces innovative perspectives on AI challenges and applications and shows the importance and success of their implementation in the modern world.

In line with BMC’s ethos as the pioneer of sustainable open access, the journal will champion open science, supported by transparent peer review and open data policies. As with other BMC Series journals, BMC Artificial Intelligence does not make editorial decisions on the basis of the interest of a study or its likely impact. Studies must be scientifically valid; for research articles this includes a scientifically sound research question, the use of suitable methods and analysis, and following community-agreed standards relevant to the research field.

We are now actively recruiting editorial board members ahead of the official launch; to find out more about this or other ways to get involved in  BMC Artificial Intelligence, please get in touch – I’d love to hear from you! My email is  alison.cuff@biomedcentral.com
