Co-designing safe spaces for menstrual health management in humanitarian settings

A safe, dignified, and healthy way to manage menstrual health should be a basic right for all individuals who menstruate. However, these necessities are often not afforded to people in low- and middle-income countries and their lack is frequently exacerbated in humanitarian settings. In this blog post, the authors of a new paper in BMC Women’s Health discuss their findings regarding how they applied human-centered design principles to co-design, build, and evaluate a community-driven solution of safe spaces for menstrual health management among a displaced population.

Culturally Safe and Trauma-Informed Care for Indigenous Women: The Indigenous Birth Support Worker (IBSW) Program

Indigenous women in Canada face systemic barriers that hinder their access to quality healthcare during pregnancy and childbirth. In order to address these barriers and improve access to care, the Indigenous Birth Support Worker (IBSW) Program was developed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In this blog post, the author of a new qualitative study in BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth discusses their findings regarding the positive impact the program has had on both IBSWs and Indigenous birthing women.
