When goals do not concur: conflicting perceptions of school science

Teachers’ estimation of students’ abilities may be inaccurate and can have big impacts on their goals and self-esteem. At times a teacher may draw wrong conclusions from students behavior for reasons that may depend on the interaction between the teacher and the student’s achievement goals rather than just the student’s performance. This study sheds some light on what may lead one person to underestimate another, and encourages teachers and researchers to reflect on their own and their students’ achievement goals orientations goals.
