Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine 

The Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine is currently inviting research submissions to a thematic series on ‘Local knowledge: Who cares?’

Rainer Bussmann (Missouri Botanical Garden),
Ulysses P. de Albuquerque (Federal Rural University of Pernambuco),
Andrea Pieroni (University of Gastronomic Sciences),
Victoria Reyes-García (University of Barcelona),
Ina Vandebroek (New York Botanical Garden).

‘Local
knowledge: Who cares?’ will
be published in 2011 and is focused on the potential and established value of ethnobiological and ethnomedical knowledge and its associated plant and animal resources for local communities and society at large.

Articles that address this subject from a critical and innovative perspective not yet thoroughly discussed in the ethnoscience literature are especially welcomed.

Topics covered in this series include (but are not limited to) the importance of local knowledge for

  • local health and nutrition
  • conservation and natural resources management
  • human rights
  • cultural heritage
  • education.


Original research consisting of case studies (especially if they are comparative) as well as review articles will be considered.

Please note: When submitting your manuscript for consideration, be sure to mention in your cover letter that the article is being submitted to the thematic series on ‘Local knowledge: Who cares?’.
