Call for Papers! Introducing BMC Oral Health’s New Collection: Oral and Systemic Health

According to the World Health Organisation, oral diseases pose a major public health burden worldwide, with almost 10% of the global population being affected by severe periodontal disease. Furthermore, numerous studies have demonstrated a connection between oral and overall health. For example, periodontal disease has been linked to many common non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, rheumatoid arthritis, kidney disease and cancer. Therefore, a greater understanding of oral-systemic health is required to improve our general health and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being. BMC Oral Health has launched a new collection to bring together articles on oral-systemic health to highlight this need for knowledge.

The Collection will consider the following article types concerning oral-systemic health:

  • Observational studies – investigating associations linking oral and systemic health.
  • Common modifiable risk factors of oral and systemic diseases.
  • Mechanistic studies – investigating mechanisms connecting oral and systemic health.
  • Preventative strategies to improve oral and systemic health.

This Collection is now open for submissions!

This Collection will consider researchdatabase and software articles. Review articles will be considered at the discretion of the Journal’s Editor. Please note that unsolicited reviews will not be considered as per our submission guidelines.

Datasets, descriptions and short reports relevant to the Collection will be considered by BMC Research Notes as data or research notes. This type of content will be published in BMC Research Notes and included in the final collection.

Articles under consideration for publication within the collection will be assessed according to the standard BMC Oral Health editorial criteria and will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process overseen by Editorial Board Members Professor Rodrigo Mariño (The University of Melbourne, Australia) and Dr Meghashyam Bhat (Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, India and the University of Adelaide, Australia).
