BMC’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic – we’re here for you

We are living through unprecedented times. As a publisher whose portfolio covers most biomedical and health disciplines, many of our researchers may be on the front lines of understanding and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath. We are here for you, whatever you are currently dealing with – both in your research and personal lives.

Accessing the latest COVID-19 research

BMC is a fully open access publisher and all our articles are immediately and permanently available for free under a creative commons license. Our publisher, Springer Nature is committed to supporting the global response to emerging outbreaks by enabling fast and direct access to the latest available evidence, research and data. All research related to the coronavirus, including BMC content, is freely available on a COVID-19 hub, which includes over 12,000 pieces of relevant book and journal content.

We continue to work with global organisations to support the sharing of relevant research and data, including supporting the World Health Organisation and the initiative from the White House Office of Science and Technology to make all relevant global research, and data, immediately available in one place via PubMed Central.

Living through the pandemic

Like you, our publishing teams around the world are adapting to a new reality. Many are working from home while labs are either closed or severely disrupted. Many researchers are pivoting to either directly support the immediate response to the pandemic or to consider repurposing their grants to undertake new research related to the virus or its impact.

Researchers are also learning to manage their work alongside managing duties as a parent or caregiver, and many are dealing with sickness and loss. We are working to keep research moving and supporting our communities with tips on working remotely, staying connected and managing your mental health

We continue to publish new articles and our publishing teams are endeavouring to assist in the rapid dissemination of research relating to COVID-19. We encourage early sharing of research submitted to all our journals through preprints, and our In Review service is available for many journals.

As a signatory on the consensus statement, Sharing research data and findings relevant to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we strongly encourage authors submitting articles related to this emergency to share underlying datasets relating to the outbreak as rapidly and widely as possible. Springer Nature is offering free access to its Research Data Support for COVID-19 data to support the rapid and wide dissemination of research during the pandemic.

However COVID-19 has affected you, we send our warmest regards at this difficult time. We’re striving to keep research in progress and look forward to hearing from you.
